Flexible Schedules on the Rise discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a flexible schedule for employees. Here we will  take a look at flexible schedules from the employer’s perspective. Below is a list of advantages and disadvantages for employers who are thinking of offering a flexible schedule as a benefit.

Advantages of Flexible Work Schedules for Employers:

 Increase in employee morale, engagement and commitment to the company.
 Reduced absenteeism and tardiness.
 A benefit perk that will attract outstanding new employees.
 Reduced turnover.
 It will allow employees to work when they accomplish most, feel the freshest, and enjoy working.
 It may be able to extend the hours of operation for certain departments.
 Helps develop an image as an employer of choice.

Disadvantages of Flexible Work Schedules for Employers:

 Some employees may take advantage of the flexibility. It is still important to remember that you are working and it is not the time to watch Netflix’s and answer emails.
 Some managers may have trouble adjusting to this new management style since it does take a lot of trust. They may be used to seeing their staff at work and being able to monitor what they do.
 Jobs that require customer-facing responsibilities only allow certain types of flextime. Employers want to make sure that all employees are receiving the similar treatment. There are certain types of jobs such as nursing that may not be able to use a flexible schedule.

Flexible Schedules are becoming more common in the workforce.  Therefore, if you company is not already offering them, it may be an option your company would like to consider in the future. Our ESC HR Consultants are always available to discuss how offering this benefit would impact your company!
