Juneteenth marks the day all enslaved people were made aware of their liberation. Juneteenth became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. It has become a day not only of celebration, but also of reflection on the progress that has been made, while acknowledging the road ahead.
As Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives continue to be an important part of the employee experience, employers can show their support and solidarity by:
1. Educating on the history of Juneteenth
2. Supporting black-owned businesses and investing in the community
3. Publicly committing to observing Juneteenth through a corporate holiday, floating holiday, or other formal celebration
4. Joining community events commemorating Juneteenth
We hope you join us today in celebrating freedom and inspiring everyone to continue the fight for racial equality.
